Kawhi Leonard's Farewell Statement Made Me Laugh
After weeks since Kawhi was dealt to the Raptors, and months after he decided to give the Spurs the middle finger and sit out the whole year, we finally have the boiler plate player statement thanking his former team. When athletes take out a page in the local paper and things of that nature, it’s mostly fluff. You can’t expect a player to be truly honest, especially if they had a less than amicable split, but something about Kawhi’s statement makes me laugh. Oh you took weeks just to figure out THANK YOU? I know Kawhi is a robot so maybe he’s just starting to advance and learn what feelings are, but you can’t say you went back and forth for weeks and then this is your final product.
Do we really think Kawhi is thankful to Pop and the organization? You know the one he hates and tried everything under the sun to get away from? Is he thankful that they sent him to fucking Siberia instead of LA where he made it clear he wants to go? Or what about all that drama about how they were trying to rush him back onto the court before he felt like he was ready? Now there are parts that I sort of believe, and that’s when he talks about his teammates and fans. Remember there was that players only meeting where he told everybody basically “look fuck Pop and fuck this organization, but I’ll play for you all (my teammates) any day”.

Basically the same thing, but feels more genuine because we know as fans that DeRozan in no way wanted out of Toronto, in fact it was the exact opposite. Kawhi’s was basically his internal computer Googled everything an athlete is supposed to say and then printed it out quickly on Microsoft Word. I’m to believe that a person who does not know how to smile is using exclamation points? In fact, I’m not convinced that the person who wrote this statement isn’t the same person who wrote that fake email from Dave that also used exclamation points. Dead giveaway in my opinion.
I know we should never read too much into these statements, they happen every year. But I can’t exactly say that letting this much time go by is the best look. Clearly his agent or uncle or whatever realized they hadn’t said anything and literally put out the bare minimum. So sorry Kawhi, I do not believe pretty much 90% of what is in this statement, and anyone with eyes and a brain probably doesn’t either.
I will say, that’s a legit logo though. I’m a big sucker for a legit logo and I can admit that hand plays.
